Founders: Torsten Graf and Thomas Hellweg Product: 4Collection, a real-world-asset platform for investment-grade diamonds. Each GIA-certified stone gets a 1:1 digital twin. milbo: the whole system, conceived, built and run: audited smart contracts, the Web3 app, the marketing site, KYC/AML, the payment stack, the burn-to-redeem mechanic, and the legal scaffolding around it. Embedded as the (fractional) CTO with budget authority, not a vendor.

The Ambition

4Collection came out of a single interview. The founders had a quote on the table to build their platform with another firm for €350,000, and they brought milbo in for a day to pressure-test that firm and find out whether they were being told the truth. Half a day in the room was enough. milbo's founder, then 22, took the other firm's plan apart in front of everyone.

The question that came back was not whether the firm was right. It was whether milbo could build the thing instead, for a fraction, and lead it. We could, and we would. We brought in developers who had shipped some of the largest NFT collections in the world to build the smart contract and validate the MVP, and what started as a half-hour conversation became a tech mandate, fast.

The founders had the asset and the idea. What they did not have was someone who could bridge a diamond, a blockchain and a buyer without getting any of it wrong.

The Build

“A real diamond, sold on-chain, shipped from a vault, and legal at every step.”

Buying a tokenized diamond had to feel as clean as any checkout, while every layer underneath held: the payment, the chain, the vault, and the law.

milbo built the whole system and runs it. Audited smart contracts on Base, Coinbase's Layer-2. A Next.js Web3 app on .xyz and a marketing and education site on .com. KYC at onboarding and AML compliance through the tokenization. A payment stack that takes Stripe, PayPal, Coinbase Commerce and external wallets like MetaMask, with prices pegged to USD and EUR so the diamond's value never rides the crypto market. And the part that closes the loop between digital and physical: burn-to-redeem, where burning the NFT triggers the insured shipment of the actual stone through the luxury logistics group Ferrari. Around all of it, the legal scaffolding: withdrawal rules, the compliance framework, the regulatory headroom to keep building.

We did not do this as a vendor taking a spec. milbo was embedded as the company's CTO with authority over the budget, responsible for the calls, and the whole thing came in for a fraction of the €350,000 the other firm had quoted.

What Followed

4Collection is live. Real diamonds are selling, the platform did over €10,000 in its first week, and every layer, payment, chain, vault and compliance, holds in production. The hard half is done and proven. What it waits on now is marketing, the lift that turns a working engine into a moving one.

This was one of the hardest builds we have taken on: a bridge between a web checkout, a blockchain and a physical diamond in a vault, under full KYC and AML, with real money on every stone. We built it not as a vendor but as the team responsible for getting it right, for a fraction of what it was quoted at elsewhere. If you are carrying a build where the tech, the law and the real world all have to line up, that is the work we are built for. The next step is a call.
